Omkareshwar Temple: A Hindu temple, located in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh, India, situated in the bank of Narmada River. It completely dedicated to Lord Shiva as the temple is located on an Island named as Mandhata or Shivpuri Island. The interested fact of the island is it is in an Om symbol or shape.

It is said that there are two main temples which are related to only Lord Shiva. The first is Omkareshwar Temple and the second is a Mammaleshwar Temple. Its meaning describes as:

  • Omkareshwar: – Its sound described as Om or the Lord of Omkara. It is located on the Island.
  • Mammaleshwar: – It is describes as Immortal Lord or Lord of the Immortals. It is located on the Narmada River by Southern side of the bank of the river, which is on mainland.

Jyotirlinga or Jyotirlingam is a devotional representation of the great Hindu God of Lord Shiva. The word Jyotirlinga or Jyotirlingam is a completely related to Sanskrit word which means radiance. In all over India, there are total 13 traditional Jyotirlinga shrines and in Omkareshwar Temple there is one of them available. But it distributed in two locations. One in Omkareshwar Temple and another in a Mammaleshwar Temple.
