History of Lodhi Garden

Lodhi garden is a historical monument built in 1444 as a ruler of Delhi Sultanate Mohammad Shah a Sayyid Dynasty erected by his son Ala-ud-din Alam Shah, who was the last ruler of that dynasty. Sikander Lodi’s tomb is also available in that location which was built in 1517 by his son Ibrahim Lodi. Later on Emperor Akbar use this area as an observatory and stored records in the library.

During the period of Britishers this place is renovated like a green garden and named as Lady Willingdon Park who was the wife of Marquess of Willingdon on that time he was the governor general of India. He built that place in an attractive garden and was inaugurated in 1936.

But when the India got independence in 1947 this park was renamed as Lodhi Garden in 1968.
